Sometimes we allow labels or a diagnosis to confine us. For example, "because of my disc bulge I can't run". Or, "because I am inflexible I can't practice Yoga".
In reality, these are just stories we create, or are told to us. However, these stories can become beliefs which then limit us further. Without realizing it, a belief around the ability to heal or enjoy life is created. Then we live life according to this belief, which reinforces a pain pattern or limited movement.
There is new research and a whole new field on pain and its effects on the brain called neuroplasticity and Pain Science. Research shows the longer one is in pain the brain changes in adaptation. However, the reverse is true if we slowly begin to move again in pain free ranges, as well as change our beliefs about our own bodies, the brain evolves to match these new thoughts a movements. Yoga, physical therapy and mindful movement can help remap the brain from dysfunctional painful movement patterns, to more effective pain free patterns. Experience for your self. Consistency and repetition are key to lasting change. To help facilitate consistency I have more classes available this year for you to practice.

If one of your intentions was to be more active this year join me in any of these classes and workshops! It is a great way to learn more about about your body and prevent ailments in the future. Use Young Living's high quality oils before or after class to move with more ease, and keep the body feeling strong and mobile.
Try a different variation of Supta Padangusthasana to open the hamstrings as well as side body, to teach the body a new way to move. More important than how high you lift your leg, is the activation of the front of the thigh and keeping the lifted leg straight. If the arms do not reach the ground overhead, you can always place a blanket or bolster underneath. There should be no pain or discomfort only a feeling of length and hamstring (back of the leg) opening. Puppy not required.
